In the heart of leafy Edgbaston, St George’s Place retirement village consists of two Grade II listed Regency villas, a restored Victorian structure and new buildings, which house 95 luxury cottages and apartments.
First impressions count, the simple but beautifully presented lawns and landscapes set the scene here at Audley. We are just as passionate about nurturing and growing our people as you will be about creating exceptional, scene setting, award winning gardens.
As our Gardener you’ll take responsibility for maintaining the landscapes, planting flower beds and the general upkeep of the grounds and gardens. You will ensure that everything is maintained in a good representational order at all times and keeping things “just so” for our owners.

To water and feed all border plants, tubs and shrubs on a regular basis to ensure healthy and vigorous plants.
To cut lawn and bed edges at least every 8 days during the months of March to November and at least four times during the winter months.
To keep all ponds, water features, paths, patios, drives and forecourts and roads etc. weed free and clean. All areas to be regularly swept /tidied.
To trim hedges and shrubs as required.
To rake up leaves in the winter period.
To prune and thin plants roses, shrubs and small trees mainly in the winter period.
To maintain a garden log book.
To maintain a high standard of presentation.

Ideal Candidate:
Experience of working in the landscaping or gardening sector.
A ‘can do’ attitude and an organised approach that ensures things get done.
Excellent communication skills.
Self-motivated and driven by standards and results.
Eager to learn and develop.
Hands on and flexible approach to daily duties and shift patterns.
Warm, professional and empathetic.

Working Hours: This position is 24 hours per week - working across Monday - Friday.

Originally established in 1964, this working nursery has been run by the Kidd family, originally by James Kidd, who then passed it onto his 4 children, who up until November 2025 were running the business very successfully. It is now in the hands of a new owner, looking to continue the great work that has been set over many years, with fantastic ideas for the future. The majority of plants on sale through the year are home grown, as well as a selection of bought in stock. This business is set among the trees and a river in Stoneclough, Radcliffe, loved by the community and loyal customers. It is more than a business; it is a growing part of the strong history of the surrounding area.

Growing, managing and maintaining plants on site including watering and feeding
Monitoring of pests and diseases, including occasional pest and disease management
Ability to care for plants including deadheading and pruning when required
Helping and advising customers with their questions, concerns, and providing advice on plant care
Ability to work on the till and assist in the shop
General management and organisation of growing space, including the rotation of plants at different stage of growth
Liaising with other members of the team to ensure smooth operations across site
General site maintenance (jet washing, repairing benches, working with tools, weeding, etc)
Ensuring clean and organised working spaces

Strong knowledge, enthusiasm and experience working in the horticultural industry
Ability to work in a physically demanding role. Good physical stamina and ability to work in varying climate conditions as greenhouses can often be hot and humid
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent time management skills
